who else has "downtown" stuck in their head?
I've never been one of those people who gets stressed about Lost. You know, the "What does it mean? Why don't they tell us more? When will we get an answer without a question?!" crowd. I am trusting. I'm along for the ride, and as long as it's fun, I'm cool. But last night I had a creeping sense of dread. As we were introduced to a whole new group of people, with a whole new set of backstories and rules, I thought...uh-oh. Do I have the energy for this?
To recap: Jack, Sawyer, and Kate are prisoners of "the others". They're separated. Kate's punishment is prettiness, Sawyer's is living in a Skinner box, and Jack's is coming to terms with the end of his marriage with this tights-wearing freak as a guide. Oh, and did I mention that the others have lovely houses? And book clubs! Wait...is tights girl reading The Stand? You sneaky writers you, with your bone-throwing. Henry Gale's real name is Ben. Gasp!! The end.
Now that you're up to date, assuage my fears dear readers. Am I facing the reality of episode upon episode of others-driven psychological mind fucks? Because like I said...tired at night. Don't know if that's entertaining. Need more. More Desmond, more spooky Walt, more whatever the hell happened in the hatch, more "look at the losties getting together and making stuff happen, yay!" Pretty please?
Of course, this feeling could be completely unrelated to last night's episode. I have a working theory that over the summer, I put my favorite shows on a pedestal. As I endure months of reality filler, the thought of new scripted television sounds increasingly fabulous and unbelievable. Then the commericals start airing, and we start counting days. A girl could be a little let down under these trumped up circumstances, you know? It's such a powerful effect that I briefly questioned Tuesday's Veronica Mars for the first 10 minutes (to be fair, they introduced a character named "Piz", and such a thing must always be initially met with concern).
Regardless, me and my new realistic expectations will be tuning in next week for intrigue on the high seas and Sun overboard madness, at which point the origin of my Lost-fear should become more apparent.

I'm 99% sure that they were reading "Carrie" - there was a photo comparison of covers somewhere that I saw...

I just saw Stephen King and the Solomonster had heard the comparisons to The Stand.
Hmmm...so when does Juliet start moving things with her angry mind?

and if you're not the kind of person who geeks out and pauses the show frame by frame then you miss out on Juliet holding a Talking Heads jewel case (so I was told). probably smoke and mirrors anyway.
