is there any kind of rule to spam?

Any Rhyme? Reason? Until about say, 6 months ago, my primary email address received a very minimal amount of spam. 95% percent of that spam was redirected to my bulk email folder while I stood by, blissfully unaware. And then suddenly, my bulk email was only grabbing about 60% of the spam, the amount of which in total had probably tripled. Did I finally sign up for the wrong thing? Have 5 years of using this email address been ruined by some unscrupulous huckster? Or do email addresses have an expiration date? Like, they can only fight the oncoming tide of Cialis, stock tip, and Nigerian widow offers for so long before saying, "Fuck it. You want to read your messages, sort it out your damn self, I'm out."

There has to be some techy explanation for this I'm missing. Something that makes more sense than my yahoo having a profane and lazy personality. And dear God, I must be able to reverse this trend. Anyone?
