situation: overemployed

Busy with the convergence of my two least favorite things: purchasing card reports and database updating. What happened to the glamorous world of TV?

Until my pre/post lunch return, look at how cute baby ducks are! Aw, baby ducks. Quack.

afternoon clips: we're keeping schtum edition

- Hunter S. Thompson's ashes to be "blasted" out of a cannon.

- "Beyonce Keeps Schtum About Love." Schtum? Is that a British word, or a typo? Because it just sounds dirty.

- Oscars? Pshaw. Who's GQ's favorite actor?

Jennifer Love Hewitt just won't go away.

- Hoorah! The hard-hitting Teen Hollywood review of the One Tree Hill box set I have been anxiously awaiting is finally here, and suprise! They love it!

oh. dear. god.

In response to this, OandU proposes this. Oh wait, we already are that!

Honestly though, we're aghast. This is clearly an evil ploy by the higher-ups to make web-surfing productive. And they got a fellow assistant to do their dirty work! They must be stopped.

unfortunate, but necessary

Though the creative/visual letdown of two American Idol posts in a row upsets me, it must be done.

I take back what I said about guys and ballads. It turns out girls and ballads can be worse. On the whole, they were a very boring group last night. We've certainly gotten to the point where everyone can hit the notes (well, everyone except for the terrified Janay, poor thing), but you've got to do a little better than that. Pick something that shows a some range! Even Nadia, who rocked it, failed to display any great singing talent. Beyond her, I guess the "winners" of last night's show were Vonzell Solomonster, Carrie, and Aloha. I don't know why the judges gave Jessica Sierra any compliments. Still, if I had to guess, I'd say Celena and Sarah are going home. Peanut gallery? What say you?

meanwhile, in important world news

American Idol last night! Thoughts?

Personally, my favorites were Bo, Anwar, Mario, and, despite what Simon said, Nikko. Looking back, Part-Time Lover was a good song to sing, and he nailed it. There's just something about dudes singing ballads...the concept itself has such a high cheese level to begin with that once you add in the obligatory arm-waving, chest-beating, and puppy-dog-eyeing you're an oozey bland mess. Sing up-tempo fellas, it'll help you out. Just don't go all hip-twitchy on us.

Overall, the guys are much better than they have been in past years, clearly due to the age difference. Everyone who did well last night was in their twenties, most of them were twenty five or older. It should be interesting to see how the much younger girls do as a group tonight....

picture preoccupation

Not a lot of posting today my friends, because the official wedding pictures are in and I am seriously girling it up. How could I not?

morning clips: more ted, more duke, less blink edition

- The woman who wore masking tape to a show for a boat full of sailors calls Britney and J. Lo hoes.

- Japanese dance musician/pitchfork fave Mu writes about her favorite songs in adorably stilted English.

- Owen Wilson spotted wooing a Blue Devil/Pi Phi at the Washington Duke Inn. They next took in big beer night at Satty's and got totally wasted before crashing in her Wannamaker triple and completely inconveniencing her roommates by forgetting the scrunchie rule.

- Ted Leo loves Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" (see the 2/1 entry), proves it by rocking a cover rendition on Sunday. Seriously, dudes, you should have been there.

- Blink 182 provides music to my ears (at last), announcing their plans to go on indefinite hiatus.

completely rhetorical, obvs

Is there anything better than Ted Leo live?

proof that you are reading the words of an adult

I was contemplating my apartment storage problem and attempting to reconcile it with my current influx of small appliances and stemware problem when the solution came to me:

Sideboard.

I need/want a sideboard. Ancillary furniture...I think that makes me, officially, post-post-college.

afternoon clips: mix cds won't save the show, schwartz! edition

- Marilyn Manson calls out Britney on style and class. I'd say this was a new low, but I think I've given up on measuring such depths.

- In honor of LA's continually wet winter (my mom just reminded me that we had originally planned the wedding for this weekend....egads!) I, or more accurately, Volkswagen, present to you: Singin' in the Rain, redux.

- Not cool, Blockbuster corporate Zeusses.

- The Coz is cleared, and is free to return to his life of jello jiggling, picture paging, and listening to "the jazz music."

- Elizabeth Taylor, while career dead for some time, still not actually dead.

- Hoorah! It's the tracklist for OC Soundtrack Volume 4!
